Logging

This logging page is the page when it comes to recording your own flight's details. Besides a pure logging functionality it also provides in flight data and analysis results of flights from the database to the user.

Note: the provided flight data should not be used for navigational purposes as the accuracy might not be sufficient and the data might not be reliable!

The page has two views that can be toggled by using the page control on the lower part of the selected page. The second view (standard view) shows the data and instruments in front of a black background, the first one does it on top of a map, a satelite image or a combination of them (in the future just referred to as a "map").

The map's type can be set in the preferences. The map is always centered around the pilot's location, independent if the user's location is shown or not. By pinching the user can zoom in or out.

The map can either have a fixed northern orientation or can follow the pilot's view during the flight (see preferences).

Not only carthographic information are shown on the map but also data like hotspots, climb rate traces climb rate traces etc. Most of the information can be individually adjusted to the user's requirements in the preferences.

On top of the background instruments are placed. They have initially default positions. But they can be changed in position ("dragging") and size ("pinching") after having activated them by a long press on one of the instruments. Shaking the iPad or iPhone resets the position and size of the instruments to their default settings.

Remark: the instruments can be positioned and sized separately for the landscape or portrait mode!

Logging is started by pressing the green start button. The iPhone determines an initial position. Depending on the set preferences logging starts immediately or only when the iPhone has detected the beginning of a flight. After landing the stop sign is to be dragged to the right side when manual stopping of logging is enabled. To ultimately save the flight the save-button is to be touched.

In case of an automatic landing detection the iPhone uses specific criteria to detect the end of the flight. When a landing has been detected, logging is stopped and the flight is saved automatically. Afterwards a brief summary of the main flight data is shown to the user.

As long as the data is still visible additional flight data - like the pilot's name or route points - can be entered after having touched the button in the navigation bar.
