Altimeter filter

Altimeterfilter

SkyLogger supports various filters to reduce unwanted signal noise from barometric sensors. Depending on the sensor's signal noise and the user's preferences the effect of the filters on the delivery of data should be tested under real conditions.

To get an initial impression about the effect of the various filters a diagram is shown below the filter types. The diagram shows the actual and unfiltered sensor values as a black dotted line. The green line on top shows the filtered data.

The example shown on the right displays unfiltered and Kalman filtered altitude data. Also climb rate data can be visualized when touching the climb rate selector.

While the raw data fluctuates around 20 m with various sharp peaks (black dotted line) Kalman filtered data is rather smooth and fluctuates less (green dotted line).

In case No filter is selected the green dotted line is identical to the black dotted line. This has the effect that only the green dotted line is visible as it is shown on top of the black dotted line.
